Description
The
Street Lighting section deals with the design and installation of
public lighting and sign maintenance, specialised car park lighting,
and new and replacement installation work.
Christmas
tree lighting, floodlighting of Stockport Town Hall and Stockport
viaduct are some of the more exceptional tasks this section has
undertaken.
Maintenance and
installation work is carried out for other public bodies and local
developments including car parks and security lighting.
This department is responsible for the maintenance of:
- 32,000 street lighting columns
- 4,000 traffic signs
- 1,000 traffic bollards
- 5,000 street name plates
The
operational section of Street Lighting employ a number of full time
electrically qualified personnel and also provide a 24 hour emergency
service to ensure that there is a response to any dangerous occurrence
with the borough's street furniture.
This section
also maintains a night patrol system. Every street light, bollard and
illuminated sign is inspected every two weeks during both, the summer
and winter months, with any defects noted and reported the following
day.
The section also manages the computerised street
furniture inventory to enable the Council to tender on a 3 yearly basis
for cheaper energy sources on the street lighting stock.
We have invested time and effort to ensure we provide the best and highest quality service to our customers as possible. |
