Safety Systems
Safety systems are a wholly unique aspect of the lighting industry. They are vitally important and are also in many cases a legal requirement under health and safety laws in public places. The most important thing about well installed safety systems is that they should never be overlooked because they could one day save lives, although one hopes when installing them that they will never have to be used.
There are various types of safety systems, many focus on fire protection, particuarly in large retail and shopping complexes. These central alarm systems will activate if a fire alarm is actioned and engage emergency lighting throughout the building and perform such tasks as cut power to elevators and lifts, notify the fire department and other various functions. There are also a large number of emergency and civil defense safety systems available on the market ranging from simple, hardenend portable lights with tremendously long battery lives for use in disaster and crisis situations to generators and control systems for all kinds of safety and illumination functions.
There is no doubt that safety systems can save peoples lives, make no mistake about it. Whilst you are legally obligated to install safety systems
by law in most circumstances you are also morally bound to fit these
lights if you provide any kind of public service in a building or
darkened place. Hopefully they will never have to be used, however if
they are you will be very glad that you chose to purchase such
equipment and keep it tested to ensure it is working and compliant with
the law.
